40 participants from Kingston healthcare organizations attended a conference on Violence in Healthcare on March 2 at City hall in Kingston. Presenters included Dr. Margaret Keith and Dr. James Brophy; Sharon Richer, Secretary-Treasurer of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions; Brent Tousignant, President of CUPE local 1974; Sue Moore from long term care; and Deb Oldfield, organizer for CUPE. The conference was sponsored by CUPE and the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions.

Participants brainstormed actions to make the campaign to end violence in healthcare more effective.

On Thursday, CUPE and the NDP launched a private members bill to make assault against a healthcare worker a more serious offense for the purposes of sentencing.
