Ford announces funding for private hospitals and private clinics.

We will fight hard to protect these health services

The Ford government has announced that it will fund private hospitals and private clinics to clear the backlog of medical procedures and surgeries caused by Covid.

Private hospitals have death rates 2% higher than public hospitals; in private clinics death rates are 8% higher.

We are strongly supporting the Ontario Health Coalition’s campaign against this plan, beginning with town hall meetings across the province in March and April. Click here for details.

15,000 postcards demanding repeal of Bill 124 delivered to Premier Ford

In a rally Feb. 22, CUPE and SEIU brought 15,000 postcards signed by health care workers to the leaders of the NDP, Liberal and Green parties. Premier Ford was invited, but declined to attend.

Bill 124 limits wage increases to 1% a year for 3 years. Inflation was 5.2% in 2021 and started 2022 at 5.7%. This means cuts to the spending power of our salaries of more than 4% a year. We are asking for the repeal of the Bill and the right to bargain wages at least equal to inflation.

Please attend the rally at the key Conservative MPPs closest to you in mid-Marchclick here to see the full list.
